There are 3,500 <\/b>species in the world.\u00a0\u00a0About 175 of those are in North America.\u00a0 We have 35-85 in our area of Alabama.<\/p>\n

Alabama has about 60 species:\u00a0 Anopheles, Culex, Aedes (Asian).\u00a0 The majority of these don’t bite people, but typically feed on birds and such.<\/p>\n

But then there are these…<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n
\"\" Asian Tiger Mosquito <\/strong>(Aedes albopictus)<\/em><\/h6>\n

These mosquitoes lay their eggs all over the yard.\u00a0 The eggs are drying resistant; the egg can sit for a year or more dormant. This species only flies and feeds during the day.\u00a0 Only flies about 100 feet from home.\u00a0 Floor fans to help to keep them\u00a0away since they fly so low.<\/p>\n

These are medium-sized, brown mosquitoes that are most predominate in domestic environments.\u00a0 Hence, earnings its name Southern House Mosquito.\u00a0 This species is known for caring viruses such as West Nile, Zika, and Western Equine Encephalitis.<\/p>\n
